Our first ever Maldives holiday was taken on tiny Eriyadu and it's where we fell in love with these magical islands. A friendly, back-to-basics resort, there are no fancy sound systems or Jacuzzis here, but its beaches, lagoon and house reef are stunning, and it's one of the most reasonably-priced resorts. It's in North Male atoll.

  • Value rooms in a two-storey block or semi-detached beach villas

  • No water villas so breathtaking views wherever you look

  • Swimming pool, small gym and spa

  • 45-minute speedboat transfer

Eriyadu

We loved the luxurious villas at Furaveri, in Raa atoll - then we snorkelled the reef and were blown away! An easy swim from the beach, it's one of the liveliest house reefs we've seen, with sharks and turtles frequently spotted. Garden villas can be interconnecting for families, while the beachfront villas, many with private pools, are detached - the Dhoni Pool Villas are inspired by the design of traditional Maldivan boats.

  • Large buffet restaurant, plus Asian and overwater Mexican restaurants

  • Large pool, tennis courts and gym

  • Kids' club

  • 45-minute seaplane or domestic flight + speedboat transfer
