Angaga

Angaga is in South Ari Atoll, renowned for some of the best snorkelling and diving in Maldives. This pretty oval island measures around 350m by 170m and takes 10 minutes to walk round the perimeter.

This small, intimate island is blessed with beautiful beaches and a lively and varied house reef that's easily accessible from the beach, so it's fabulous for snorkelling. This is a quiet and relaxed, no news, no shoes island that will suit couples and young families. The Sundown bar built on stilts over the water is one of our favourite spots, plus there's a beach-front bar serving drinks, snacks and ight lunches.

There is plenty of shade from the plentiful palm trees. One side of the island has the house reef close to shore while the other has a wide, sandy lagoon. The buildings are natural-looking with thatched roofs and the absence of coral walls (groynes) in the sea means the views are uninterrupted.

Family friendly?

Our kids loved the soft sand and beautiful lagoon to swim in, but there's no kids' club or pool. There are, however, three excellent two-storey family villas, but these are allocated on arrival so it's not possible to reserve them in advance
