Palm Beach

It can be hard in Maldives to find rooms large enough to accommodate families, so Palm Beach is a real find as almost all room types will fit in two adults plus two children, with the two-storey Villas also offering privacy for grown-ups. With only 138 rooms on this 2km-long island, there's lots of space between villas, which are mostly detached, and you can always find your own stretch of white beach. A stunning sandbank at one end of the island has a beach bar and plenty of sun loungers for that sundowner cocktail.

The island is Italian-managed, and with that comes a family-friendly atmosphere, fabulous food and, of course, a football pitch! The huge, top-quality buffet has live cooking stations and a strong Italian influence - the majority of guests here are Italian - plus there's a smaller, romantic restaurant next to the beach and a beach-side coffee shop serving breakfast and afternoon tea, which is included in the Full Board Plus package. Add great free sports facilities, including bicycles to explore the palm-shaded interior of the island, and Palm Beach offers excellent value with chic style. The gorgeous turquoise  lagoon is wonderful for swimming but there's little snorkelling to be had from the beach, so there are free daily boat trips to the island's house reef and other good snorkelling spots. Divers are well catered for, with many courses available, including free diving, and special divers' rooms at very reasonable rates.

Club Diving Rooms (45 sq ft): Terraced bungalows (non-beachfront) perfect for groups of divers as located conveniently near the dive centre and diving pier. They include bedroom, roomy dressing area ideal for storing and drying diving gear, inside bathroom and veranda. Junior Suites (Sunrise or Sunset) and Deluxe Rooms (60 sq ft): These are all detached beach-front bungalows with bedroom, dressing area, open air bathroom with shower and bath, large verandas with typical Maldivian Hindoli swing and ocean view. The only difference between them is their position, with the more expensive Junior Suites having a wider beach than the cheaper Deluxe Rooms. Same amenities as Diving Rooms

Suites (100 sq ft): Beach-front bungalows include bedroom, sitting area, dressing room, open air bathroom and private patio with ocean view. Located on the sunset side of the island and surrounded by vegetation for maximum privacy. All amenities of Diving Rooms

Villas (80 sq ft): These elegant two-storey villas are a real home-from-home on the beach and great for families, with plenty of storage space, a lower floor that can be used as a living room and can easily take two beds, plus an upper floor with king-sized bed and a large balcony overlooking the sea, perfect for an after-dinner drink enjoying the moonlit ocean. There are televisions on both floors. There's a large veranda with sunbeds and traditional Maldivian swing. The huge bathroom has bath, twin basins and an outdoor shower. All amenities of Diving Rooms

Garden Villas: Exactly the same as Villas but are in the shady interior rather than beach-front, however it's only a few metres to the beach and they are around 20% cheaper than Villas so offer great value for money

All above room types except Club Diving Rooms have maximum occupancy of 4 adults/children

Presidential Suites (300 sq ft): These huge villas enjoy prime position on the beach and are perfect for extended families or friends holidaying together. There are two spacious bedrooms, two outdoor bathrooms with double shower and Jacuzzi, and spacious living and dining areas, one inside and one outside overlooking the sea
